Therapy Dog - Luna
Dear Parents/Carers
I wanted to let you know that West Park Academy has a new addition to its family! Her name is Luna and she is going to be trained as a Therapy Dog to support and work with children across school. She will live at my house but will come to work with me most days. She is a Labradoodle, chosen because it is an intelligent breed that will respond well to training and which is known to be good with children and is very sociable and friendly, as well as this they usually inherit the low-shedding quality of a poodle's coat.
She will spend a lot of her time as a puppy in the various school offices but will slowly be introduced across school to help with her training and socialisation.
There will be a risk assessment and policy in place. Please contact the school office if you would like a copy of these.
At a later date, we will be asking for you to give permission for your child to spend time with Luna and be involved in walking and playing with her on the school playgrounds and in the local area. All children who have expressed an interest (and for who we have permission) will get the opportunity to spend time with her.
