ECO PROJECTS 2023-2024

At West Park Academy we recognise the importance of working together to improve sustainability and raise the profile of green issues at school, in our local community and around the world. Each class has two elected Eco Ambassadors who represent them and their views at our regular meetings.

This year our Eco Ambassadors have been working hard to create our school Eco Code.

Here it is…

P  lants and trees help us breathe

L  itter needs to be recycled

A  mbassadors are here to help

N  ature is beautiful, let’s keep it that way

E  lectricity needs to be saved

T  ime to do our bit

Following this, they helped to complete an environmental review. We looked at what was currently happening at school and noted any areas for development. We used this information to help us decide on the three topics to work on as part of the Green Flag Award. We chose marine, litter and waste.

This is a summary of the actions the Eco Ambassador team have already completed and hope to complete this year...

Marine

  • The Eco Ambassadors delivered an assembly reminding our school community of the items that go into each different bin
  • A plan to make better use of the school website and social media to give tips and ideas on reducing plastic usage
  • They explored the impact on plastic waste in Eco Club. How does plastic get from land to sea? What can we do?

Energy

  • The team made plans to hold our own Earth Hour in Autumn 2024
  • Eco Ambassadors plan to deliver an assembly on energy saving during our own Earth day
  • Posters were created to remind everyone to switch off lights and close windows and doors
  • They explored the importance of energy saving in Eco Club

Litter

  • They explored the impact of litter on the local and wider environment in Eco Club.
  • We have displayed some of our Eco work on the noticeboard
  • We created new posters for around school
  • The whole school took part in The Great British Spring Clean and school litter pick day 27.03.24
  • Next term we want to write a letter to our new MP expressing our concerns of our findings
  • Plans are being developed to create a scheme to loan out litter picking equipment to families on an evening/weekend
  • Litter pickers are available for the children to use at playtimes

If you have any issues that you would like your ambassador to raise, please tell them so they can share your views at the next meeting. The Eco information board is in the hall along from the kitchen doorway. Here you will find a list of ambassadors and lots of information about the eco work happening in  school.
