Art Intent

At West Park Academy, we believe that art is a vital and integral part of children’s education. Through our art curriculum, children are provided with opportunities to develop a range of ways in which they can share and express their individual creativity as well as independence, judgement and self-reflection.

We guide pupils as they develop a natural sense of wonder and curiosity about the world around them and shape their understanding of their own and others’ cultural heritages through studying a diverse range of male and female artists and designers throughout history.

Through effective teaching and carefully thought out sequences of lessons and experiences, our pupils will develop their appreciation of the visual language of art. We believe that our engaging curriculum will enable our pupils to reach their full potential and equip them with the appropriate skills and aspirations to become the artists of our future.   

Music Intent

At West Park Academy, music is considered a vehicle through which children can develop self-confidence, creativity and self-expression. Through our music curriculum, we will celebrate local, national and global music and the musicians and composers who perform and compose it.

Children will acquire the skills and vocabulary to explore, appreciate and respond to this variety of music. In addition, they will collaborate to create and perform their own compositions. We will equip them to reflect and respond, as musicians, to their own compositions and that of others. Music will help children better imagine, predict and work towards a better fulfilled and purposeful future.
